Barnes & Noble was founded in 1886 by Charles M. Barnes, William Bares, G. Clifford Noble, and Leonard Riggio in New York City, New York. It was originally called Arthur Hinds & Company. Its headquarters remain in New York City to this day. There are around 24,000 employees with over 600 retail stores across the United States.
Barnes & Noble sells products such as books, DVDs, newspapers, toys, music, along with Nook e-readers and tablets. Barnes & Noble also offers a membership program that gives customers an opportunity to receive a 40% discount off of the list price of hardcover bestsellers, a 10% discount off of Barnes & Noble price of just about everything else, with a few exclusions such as already discounted items and digital content. Members also receive free shipping on Barnes & Noble orders with no minimum purchase required, again with a few noted exceptions. There are additional member-exclusive offers and savings that are emailed throughout the year.
A membership with Barnes & Noble costs $25 per year with the renewal charge processed automatically about 30 days prior to the expiration date. New members will need to take a couple of minutes to create a Barnes & Noble account online. From there, click the box confirming you accept the terms and conditions and you’d like to join today. You then enter your payment details and that’s it.
